Nadella’s "Full-Stack Builder" is the industry term for the Orchestrator. It describes a developer who is no longer confined to a single layer of the stack. Because AI handles the implementation details of every layer—generating the CSS for the frontend, writing the SQL for the backend, and drafting the specs for the product manager—a single individual can now own the vertical slice of value that previously required four specialists to deliver.

The Typist is limited by what they can manually code. The Full-Stack Builder is limited only by what they can orchestrate.

What "Orchestration" Actually Means

Orchestration is not delegation. It's not "give the AI a task and hope." Orchestration is informed direction of intelligent systems.

Here's the difference between a typist and an orchestrator:

The Typist Approach: "I need to figure out what hash algorithm to use, how to store passwords safely, whether to use JWT or sessions, what libraries to import, how to structure the code..."

The typist writes the code. Code comes from their brain, through their fingers, into a file.

The Orchestrator Approach:

The orchestrator thinks through the problem first, directs an AI system to build it, then validates the result.

Key shift: The implementation work moves from "what I must do" to "what I must direct."

You're not typing implementations. You're making judgments that guide implementations.

The key insight: Judgment is not typing. Judgment is understanding the problem deeply enough to direct someone else's work.

This requires three capabilities:

  1. Problem clarity: Can you explain what you're building to someone else?

    • "Build a login system" is vague
    • "Build a login system that uses OAuth for social login, stores credentials in PostgreSQL with bcrypt hashing, and supports password reset via email" is clear
    • AI works much better with clarity
  2. Constraint awareness: What limits exist? And what matters most?

    • Performance: Is 100ms response time critical or nice-to-have?

  3. Quality standards: How will you know if AI's work is good?

The OODA Loop: How Autonomous Agents Think

If you're going to orchestrate AI systems, you need to understand how they reason. The most powerful framework for this is the OODA Loop—a decision-making cycle developed by military strategist John Boyd and now fundamental to how autonomous agents operate.

What Is the OODA Loop?

OODA stands for Observe, Orient, Decide, Act. It's a continuous cycle of:

  1. Observe: Gather information about the current state
  2. Orient: Analyze that information in context
  3. Decide: Choose a course of action
  4. Act: Execute that decision
  5. Repeat: Observe the new state and continue

Passive AI tools (like ChatGPT without file access) predict—they generate one response based on their training data.

When Claude Code debugs a production error, it doesn't just suggest a fix once. It loops:
