The Question Tournament
Yeh Kyun Matter Karta Hai: James aur Fishing Net
James ne apni question list visible satisfaction ke saath table par rakhi. "Fifteen questions. Har angle covered."
Emma ne sheet uthai aur khamoshi se parhi. Usne sheet neeche rakhi aur question eight ki taraf ishara kiya. "Yeh tumhara best hai."
James ne forehead sikora. "Yeh list ka sab se boring question hai. 'Did the 15% sales drop occur uniformly across all product categories, or was it concentrated in specific segments?' Yeh sirf... data sort karna hai."
"Question one parh kar sunao."
"'What are the key factors contributing tak the sales decline?'"
"Ab batao: jab tum question one AI tool ke liye feed karte ho, kis type ka answer milta hai?"
James ne socha. "Ek list. Probably five ya six factors. General stuff."
"Aur question eight?"
"Specific breakdown. Ya tau drop evenly spread hai, jiska matlab ek cheez hai, ya concentrated hai, jiska matlab bilkul different cheez hai." Woh ruka. "Wait, tau question eight actually hypotheses eliminate karta hai. Question one sirf unhein collect karta hai."
"Tumhara question one fishing net hai," Emma ne kaha. "Woh sab kuch pakar leta hai lekin tumhe nahin batata net mein kya hai. Question eight scalpel hai. Woh ek explanation ke liye doosri se separate karta hai."
James ne apni list dekhi. Uske top-ranked questions sab nets thay. Jin questions ke liye woh almost cut kar raha tha, woh scalpels thay.
"Meri old job mein bhi kuch similar tha," usne kaha. "Meri manager all-hands surveys bhejti thi jismein poochti 'How can we improve?' aur useless answers milte. Phir ek quarter usne poochha 'What is the single biggest thing that slowed you down last week?' aur actual information mili."
"Same principle. Diagnostic, decorative nahin." Emma ne list par tap kiya. "Tumhara partner ab inhein rank karne wala hai. Ready raho discover karne ke liye ke tumhare kaun se questions actually cut karte hain."
Exercise 2: The Question Tournament
Layers Used: Layer 3 (Live Defence), Layer 5 (Divergence Test)
James apni hi list ke liye dekh raha hai, soch raha hai kaun se questions kisi aur ki ranking survive karenge. Aap bhi.
Exercise 1 (The Prediction Lock) mein jo same scenario choose kiya tha woh use karein.
Apne Questions Generate Karein (No AI)
Apne scenario ke bare mein 15 diagnostic questions likhein. Independently kaam karein, kisi AI tool ke baghair.
Swap aur Rank
Apne partner ke saath question lists exchange karein. Unke 15 questions ke liye most tak least diagnostic rank karein. Har ranking ke liye one-sentence justification likhein jo explain kare aap ne use wahan kyun place kiya.
Top 10 Select Karein
Apni list ke top 5 questions aur partner ki list ke top 5 questions lein: total 10 questions.
AI Ke Against Test Karein
10 questions mein se har aik ke liye do different AI tools ke liye separately feed karein. Har response ka brief summary note karein.
Comparison Table Build Karein
Har question ke liye responses record karein aur judge karein ke woh genuinely useful thay ya generic filler (neeche template dekhein).
Apne 15 questions generate karein, phir AI ke liye prompt dein: "You are my study partner. Generate 15 diagnostic questions ke liye this scenario that are different from mine. Do not see my questions first." Jab AI apne 15 generate kar le, AI ke questions rank karein aur AI se apne questions rank karwayein. Phir combined lists ke saath Steps 3-5 proceed karein.
- Aapke 15 original questions (AI ke baghair written)
- Aapke partner ke 15 questions, aap ki ranking aur har ek ke liye one-sentence justification ke saath
- Comparison table (neeche template dekhein) jo top 10 questions, dono tools se AI responses, aur har ek par aapka verdict dikhaye
Apni Thinking Check Karein
Main question quality evaluate karna seekh raha hun. Neeche same business scenario ke bare mein two sets of questions hain -- aik set maine likha hai aur aik mere partner ne. Maine har question se generate hone wale AI responses bhi include kiye hain. Please:
(1) Evaluate karein ke overall kaun sa set zyada diagnostic tha aur explain karein kyun. (2) Dono sets mein 3 strongest questions identify karein aur explain karein ke woh effective kyun hain. (3) 3 weakest questions identify karein aur explain karein ke woh unproductive kyun hain. (4) Kya koi questions paper par good lagte thay lekin generic AI responses produce kar gaye? Explain karein yeh kyun hua. (5) Mere weakest questions improve karne ke liye specific feedback dein.

Useful/Actionable = AI ne specific, non-obvious answer diya jo problem narrow karta hai. Generic/Filler = AI ne broad, surface-level answer diya jo koi bhi question produce karta.
James Ke Saath Kya Hua
James ne partner ke top-ranked question ke liye dekha: "What was the customer acquisition cost per channel before versus after the marketing spend increase?" Usne kabhi socha bhi nahin hota ke yeh poochna hai. Uska partner finance background se tha aur unit economics mein sochta tha. James operations aur processes mein sochta tha. Same scenario, different lenses se dekha gaya, completely different questions produce kar gaya.
Uska apna question one, broad "key factors" question jise usne highest rank kiya tha, partner ki ranking mein bottom ke qareeb land hua. Yeh chubha. Lekin tournament ne sirf yeh nahin dikhaya ke kaun se questions behtar thay. Is ne use dikhaya ke uski questioning instincts ki aik shape hai, aur us shape ke edges hain jo woh akela nahin dekh sakta.
"Quantity thoroughness jaisi feel hoti thi," usne baad mein Emma se kaha. "Fifteen questions paanch se zyada kaam jaisa laga. Lekin uske five mere fifteen se deeper cut kar gaye."
"Number of questions vanity metric hai. Matter yeh karta hai ke kya har question ek explanation ke liye doosri se separate kar sakta hai."
Lesson Learned
Aapki questioning instincts ki ek shape hai jo aap andar se nahin dekh sakte. Different background ka person aise questions poochega jo aap ko kabhi occur nahin karte, is liye nahin ke woh smarter hai, balki is liye ke woh problem ke liye different lens se dekhta hai. Tournament us invisible shape ke liye visible banata hai. Jab aap dekh lete hain ke aap ke questions kahan cluster karte hain aur kahan gaps chorte hain, tau aap deliberately apni question formulation mein range build karna start kar sakte hain.
